Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. We’re happy to support children as they begin potty training and work closely with parents to create a consistent approach between home and daycare. Every child develops at their own pace, so we keep the experience positive, encouraging, and pressure-free while helping children build confidence and independence.
-
Yes. Outdoor play is an important part of our program. Children enjoy time in our large, fully fenced yard with age-appropriate toys and equipment, including bikes, swings, and a basketball hoop. Weather and each child’s age and needs are always taken into consideration. Our approach is consistent with Virginia’s licensed family day home standards, which include opportunities for age-appropriate outdoor play and active supervision.
-
Yes. We are registered with the USDA food program and follow its meal-pattern guidelines. We provide breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack, with meals planned to be balanced and age-appropriate. We’re also happy to discuss your child’s individual dietary needs with you before enrollment.

Creating a safe, attentive environment is one of our highest priorities. Our caregivers maintain current CPR and First Aid certification, and our home follows applicable Virginia licensed family day home health, safety, supervision, and emergency-preparedness standards. Just as importantly, children are cared for in a setting where attentive supervision and their everyday comfort and well-being come first.
-
We want every child at Home Sweet Care to enjoy a healthy and comfortable environment. Our illness practices follow Virginia’s standards for licensed family day homes, including guidance on when a child should remain home or be picked up because of illness. If a child begins feeling unwell while in our care, we contact the family promptly and keep the child comfortable and cared for until pickup. We’re always happy to review our full health policy with families during enrollment.
-
We believe parents should feel connected and comfortable while their child is in our care. We communicate directly with families throughout the day and share meaningful updates about their child’s well-being, development, adjustment, and needs. This open communication is part of our everyday approach and is consistent with Virginia’s licensed family day home standards for parent communication.
-
We use a warm, positive, and age-appropriate approach that helps children learn, communicate, and build healthy social-emotional skills. We focus on clear expectations, gentle redirection, consistency, and helping children express themselves in constructive ways. Our approach aligns with Virginia’s licensed family day home standards for positive behavioral guidance, while recognizing that every child is unique and may need a slightly different approach.
-
We understand that starting a new childcare setting is a big transition for both children and parents. We take time to learn about each child’s personality, routines, preferences, and comfort needs so we can make the transition feel as familiar and reassuring as possible. With patience, consistency, and plenty of individual attention, we help children become comfortable, build trust, and feel at home in their new environment.
-
